Indonesia International Motor Show (IIMS) 2013: Smart Mobility for Smart Society

JAKARTA, INDONESIA, Sep 21, 2013 - (ACN Newswire) - The growth of public mobility in urban and rural areas drives the need for sufficient transportation modes. The need for means of transportation is increasingly focused on environmentally friendly technology, considering that global oil reserves are depleting. Almost every vehicle in the world needs oil to fuel the engine and to work properly.

Another challenge relating to vehicles is the traffic jams that are of concern to those who live in major cities worldwide. Some countries have taken significant measures related to transportation such as implementing stricter regulations for vehicles coupled with improvements in public transportation infrastructure.

To be able to enjoy comfort in mobility, the public is encouraged to be wise when choosing and using any means of transportation. For example, one better use public transportation to reach close destinations or when traveling alone. Those who have vehicles should always check their vehicles regularly and avoid reckless driving; that reflects effective and efficient driving style or behavior.

In addition, the type of vehicles owned, such as an environmentally friendly and fuel-efficient car, also reflect smart driving behavior in urban areas. People certainly have the freedom to choose their desired vehicle, but it should be adjusted to their daily transportation needs.

In this year's Indonesia International Motor Show (IIMS), the public is given the chance to see, select and even drive the latest vehicles featured by participants of IIMS 2013. Through the 'test drive' program offered in the exhibition, visitors can try out one of the 18 automotive brands available for a test drive. The brands are Jaguar, VW, Hyundai, Isuzu, Ford, KIA, Tata Motor, Mazda, Renault, Daihatsu, Suzuki, Chevrolet, Mitsubishi, BMW, Dodge, Subaru, Mini and Mercedes-Benz. In total, there are 45 vehicles that visitors can choose for a test drive and help them decide which vehicles suit their need.

The Test Drive area is designed in the outdoor area of the exhibition, in front of the Trade Center Building, JIExpo, Kemayoran. It is open for the public from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Mondays to Thursdays, and from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays. "Visitors who want to test drive the car must have a valid driver's license and entrance ticket. They must also be accompanied by sales person from the desired brand," said Abiyoso Wietono, Automotive Division Manager, Dyandra Promosindo.

Subaru Palm Challenge

IIMS 2013 is again enlivened by the Subaru Palm Challenge program, organized for the fifth time. The program is a mental and physical challenge for visitors to touch Subaru VV as long as they can. Participants must be able to remain their position for several hours - which certainly reflects a test of their endurance, strength, and patience - to be able to win a New Subaru XV. Ten finalists of this event will be fully sponsored by Subaru to fly to Singapore and compete in the same challenge with finalists from other countries. The event is scheduled to take place in October 2013.

IIMS Invites Students to Love Automotive

Education about the automotive sector, as well as smart and efficient driving habits in the young generation has always been one of the concerns of IIMS. This is crucial as they will carry on the development of the local automotive industry as the country's backbone for industry and the industrialization effort.

"The programs that we designed for this exhibition reflect our concern toward developing the Indonesian automotive industry. Through special events for students, we are hoping that it will not only provide better knowledge and understanding about the automotive industry but also motivate them to be part of the industry in the future," said Johnny Darmawan, Chairman of IIMS 2013 Committee.

Prior to the opening of IIMS 2013, the committee invited several schools to visit some of IIMS participating brands' auto plants, from August 26th to 3rd September. The plants visited were Mercedes-Benz (August 26th), Isuzu (August 27th), Mitsubishi (August 29th), and Hino (September 3rd). Through this 4-hour program, students were given a better picture and first-hand experience as well as explanation about the working processes in each plant visited. Some of the manufacturers also donated engines to help the students better learn.

This year, the committee is expanding schools with the opportunity to learn and have a better look at the vehicles produces by popular brands. Thus, the committee is conducting 'Kunjungan Pelajar Nusantara' or 'National Student Visits', which provides for vocational students from schools outside Jakarta the chance to visit IIMS 2013. As many as 100 students will visit IIMS to learn about vehicles with the latest technology from various manufacturers and follow the various programs related to automotive industry, provided by the participants of IIMS 2013.

"Through the program, we hope these students can have better knowledge and interest into automotive industry. Further, we are hoping to increase their awareness to practice smart driving and obey the regulations at all times, for public safety and convenience," said Abiyoso.
