Hitachi Automotive Systems to Debut at InnoTrans 2016 Trade Fair with Focus on Leading-edge Variable Damper Systems

TOKYO, Sep 13, 2016 - (JCN Newswire) - Hitachi Automotive Systems, Ltd. today announced that it will be exhibiting for the first time at the upcoming International Trade Fair for Transport Technology - Innovative Components-Vehicles-Systems, InnoTrans 2016, a four-day event being held from September 20th through 23rd.

InnoTrans is the world's largest trade fair specializing in the latest rail transport sector technologies and products. The fair is held every other year at the Messe Berlin in Berlin, Germany. Against the backdrop of globally growing demand for products and systems for rail vehicles, Hitachi Automotive Systems has been moving to expand its businesses in this sector and views participation in InnoTrans 2016 as an opportunity to offer people in the railway business worldwide a first-hand introduction to its advanced technology capabilities and product and system strengths, particularly in the area of railway vehicle oil dampers. Hitachi Automotive Systems' rail vehicle oil dampers will be on exhibit both at its own booth and also at the Hitachi, Ltd. booth (Hall 4.2, 304) to point up their role in the Hitachi Group's overall railway-related businesses.

Hitachi Automotive Systems' railway vehicle oil dampers can be traced back to those initially developed based on automotive shock absorber technology and widely adopted by railway companies both in Japan and overseas since the start of production in 1940.

An extensive line up of dampers is slated for presentation at InnoTrans 2016, including not only vertical and horizontal dampers and yaw dampers for damping rail vehicle yawing and rolling motion, but also the first advanced variable damper system and millimeter-wave radar speed sensing module to be exhibited by Hitachi Automotive Systems in Europe.

The variable damper system operates in response to vibration data gathered by the system's acceleration sensors to keep the car body in optimum condition by controlling the damping force of individual dampers in real time. The result is substantially enhanced passenger riding comfort.

The millimeter-wave radar speed sensing module underpins advanced rail traffic operational control by using the electromagnetic wave Doppler effect to measure speed relative to the ground through a non-contact method that provides accurate speed measurements that are unaffected by wheel slip and skidding.

Hitachi Automotive Systems' exhibition at InnoTrans 2016 of rail vehicle products that exploit its automobile equipment technologies is one facet of the company's drive to expand and deepen brand recognition in the rail vehicle sector, while also further growing its businesses in Europe.
