ASV++ Rating of the Japan Preventative Safety Assessment Test have been Attained by Four Toyota and Lexus Models Outfitted with Toyota Safety Sense P and Lexus Safety System +
Top Rating Attained Under the New JNCAP Evaluation with an Added Emergency Automatic Braking Test for Pedestrians

Toyota City, Japan, Dec 01, 2016 - (JCN Newswire) - Toyota Motor Corporation has earned the top ASV++(1) rating under the 2016 JNCAP(2) Preventive Safety Performance Assessment for the Toyota Crown and Prius which are fitted with its Toyota Safety Sense P collision avoidance support package, as well as the Lexus GS and RX which are fitted with the Lexus Safety System +.

ASV++ is the highest rating that was newly established in 2016 JNCAP. Automatic braking evaluation to support collision avoidance which target pedestrians during daytime was added to the conventional performance assessments(3), and the ASV++ rating can be attained by vehicles that obtain high scores. Going forward, both Toyota and Lexus plan to deploy collision avoidance support functions which also include pedestrian detection to a wider range of models.

Approximately 37%(4) of traffic fatalities(5) in Japan involve pedestrians. To prevent fatal pedestrian-related traffic accidents, from 2015 onwards, Toyota rolled out the Toyota Safety Sense P and Lexus Safety System + packages respectively to support collision prevention targeting not only just vehicles, but pedestrians as well. Their prices have been determined at levels which would help encourage widespread use of the systems. These packages have been fitted onto nine models within Japan, and there are plans to successively increase the number of models fitted with these packages going forward.

Toyota is developing safer vehicles and technologies based on its Integrated Safety Management concept, an approach that gives direction to safety technology and vehicle development. Toyota is also pressing forward with measures that integrate people, vehicles, and the traffic environment so as to contribute to the elimination of traffic fatalities and injuries-the ultimate goal of a society that values mobility.
