OpenStack-based SDN and Brocade IP Fabric delivers robust on-demand services, data privacy and best value for hosting and cloud computing customers

The network connects four data centres across two continents to ensure Servers.com can flexibly scale to meet the growing demand for its cloud, content delivery, and dedicated hosting services at competitive price-points. The highly automated, open standards-based network has enabled the company to join the small group of providers globally who offer 40 GbE server connectivity for data-intensive applications such as Big Data analytics.

Open to automation

To ensure that Servers.com can continue to provide the agility and scalability its customers need, the company has automated its data centres using its own OpenStack and Software Defined Networking (SDN) solutions.

Leveraging the Brocade IP Fabric as the foundation, Servers.com's new network is built on Brocade VDX switches, which provide the OpenStack support, and programmable REST APIs required to enable the automation. These switches also offer 40 GbE ports that can be broken into four independent 10 GbE ports giving Servers.com huge flexibility.
