Urban Land Institute, Centre for Liveable Cities Renew Commitment to Work Together to Create Better Communities
Agreement Signed by ULI, CLC Officials at 2014 World Cities Summit
SINGAPORE, Jun 02, 2014 - (ACN Newswire) - The Urban Land Institute (ULI) has renewed its Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Centre for Liveable Cities (CLC) in Singapore. The agreement, signed today at the 2014 World Cities Summit in Singapore, recognizes the continuation of a collaborative effort between ULI and the CLC to bring together the best ideas and practices that support efforts in building liveable cities that are dynamic, vibrant, cohesive and sustainable.
ULI's partnership with CLC has resulted in significant research projects focused on improving community liveability. In March 2014, ULI Singapore, which serves the Institute's 170-plus members in Singapore, and the CLC conducted a study to form principles for improving the city's walkability and bikeability. The initiative, led by renowned Danish architect and urban designer Jan Gehl, will complement Singapore's National Cycling Plan.
Initial findings from the research are being shared this week at the World Cities Summit in Singapore, with a full report from ULI and the CLC planned for release later this year. This work builds on earlier collaborative efforts between ULI and the CLC. In 2013, the organizations co-published 10 Principles for Liveable, High Density Cities: Lessons from Singapore, which showcases the city's use of innovative real estate planning, design and development practices that emphasize a "people-first" focus.
John Fitzgerald, Chief Executive, Asia Pacific, ULI signed the MoU on behalf of the Institute and is a panelist at the World Cities Summit. "Our relationship with the CLC is strengthening ULI's ability to share knowledge, best practices and experiences about successful community building," Fitzgerald said. "Through our collaborative work with the CLC, we are demonstrating how well-planned design and development foster a competitive economy, sustainable environment and a high quality of life."
"After the successful joint research project on liveable high-density cities last year, we are pleased to work with ULI again this year on the Active Mobility study, which has garnered much support and enthusiasm. ULI has clearly demonstrated its role as a great supporter of creating healthy places around the globe and we are excited to continue this close relationship," added Khoo Teng Chye, Executive Director, CLC.
