PT PAL Indonesia (Persero) as one of SOEs focused on strategic industries through its primary weaponry defense system, PT PAL featured a number of their innovation on the maritime sectors, including Changbogo class submarines that are currently under developed.
Changbogo class submarine development was initiated through joint-section programe between PT PAL and South Korean Daewoo Shipbuilding and Marine Engineering (DSME). Two units were built in Korea, and the other one, which has been in development by PT PAL, in Indonesia.
The submarines -- which for a while named U-406, U-407, and U-408 -- had already booked by the Indonesian Navy (TNI AL) and included on whole local production strategy.
Once completed, those three submarines will strengthen the TNI AL fleet as the biggest submarines fleet in Southeast Asia with total eight submarines.

SS2 is currently used by Indonesian National Armed Forced (TNI) and Indonesian Police (Polri). Known for its design which is more ergonomic than its predecessor, SS1, the SS2 gained its named after TNI claimed champion title at the 26th ASEAN Armies Rifle Meet (AARM) 2016 in the Philippines and 2018 Australia Army Skill at Arms Meeting (AASAM).
