TIC-TOC technology moves Tactile Internet a step closer to reality

Researchers at the Electronics and Telecommunications Research Institute (ETRI) in South Korea have developed technology capable of sending packets of digital information at 25 Gb/s (giga-bit per second) - 10 times faster than currently available speeds. The technology, named TIC-TOC, is a critical component of the future Tactile Internet, in which information is sent and received at speeds on par with human perception.

ETRI's Cup Holder Charges Phones Wirelessly

A cup holder that wirelessly charges electronic devices in a 3D space has been developed by ETRI in South Korea. It is dubbed as 'E-Cup' and can charge multiple devices placed inside the 10 cm-wide holder at the same time, at the same rate as wired chargers, regardless of orientation or position of the devices.

Ultra-high speed Wi-Fi developed for Seoul's subway trains

A mobile hot-spot network featuring an extremely fast 1.25 Gbps data transmission has been developed for public transportation systems by ETRI in South Korea. A pilot project featuring the new technology in Seoul's subway lines will begin later this year.

Aldebaran5, Next Generation Autonomous Vehicle Computing Platform in a Single Chip

The Processor Research Group at ETRI has announced development of the Aldebaran5, a processor for self-driving cars. Aldebaran5 features 9 cores to provide high computing power as well as safety mechanisms to ensure reliability for automotive applications, while exhibiting industry leading power efficiency (~1 watt) and a tiny form factor (smaller than the size of a nail head.)
