SIWW Founding Sponsor CH2M HILL Recognized for Outstanding Achievements in Global Water Industry

SINGAPORE, Jul 02, 2012 - (ACN Newswire) - CH2M HILL (www.ch2mhill.com), a global full-service consulting, design, construction, and operations firm, is pleased to announce that the firm has won the Global Water Award for Water Company of the Year as well as has been recognized with the International Water Association's (IWA) Project Innovation Award, Asia Pacific Region, for its role on PUB Singapore's Active, Beautiful and Clean (ABC) Waters Programme, specifically the Alexandra Canal project.

Water Company of the Year Award

The Global Water Award for Water Company of the Year is given to the water company that made the most significant contributions to the development and advancement of the global water sector over the past year.

"This is a distinct honor for CH2M HILL," said Bob Bailey, CH2M HILL Water Business Group President. "This recognition is a testament to not only the hard work and dedication of CH2M HILL's employees to solve our clients' challenges, but also to our clients and partners in the urban, industrial, energy and agricultural sectors who trust us to deliver solutions that balance social, economic and environmental priorities."

CH2M HILL was selected as Water Company of the Year based on the firm's numerous achievements in 2011 such as:

- Expanding its presence around the world with the acquisition of Halcrow, which added 80 offices worldwide, 6,000 employees, and a strong presence in the Middle East. The Halcrow acquisition has broadened and deepened CH2M HILL's influence - and value - for water users in all sectors.

- Launching "WaterMatch," a specific water-related grassroots initiative that seeks to promote the beneficial re-use of municipal effluent by the industrial and agricultural sectors which collectively represent roughly 88-90% of global water consumption.

- CH2M HILL is one of the few engineering firms that can provide its clients with complete operations and maintenance services within the water/wastewater operations arena in addition to engineering technical expertise.

- Named World's Most Ethical Companies - 2012, 2011, 2010, 2009 by the Ethisphere Institute.

- Growing its water work for industrial, energy and agricultural clients, including its growing practice of water management for oil sands operations in Alberta and bioenergy developments in Brazil and the U.S.

In addition, a number of CH2M HILL clients and projects were recognized at the annual Global Water Awards, sponsored by the International Desalination Association and Global Water Intelligence, which distinguish outstanding achievements within the international water industry.

IWA Project Innovation Award, Asia Pacific Region

The Project Innovation Awards is a prestigious global competition which recognizes and celebrates innovation and excellence in water engineering projects around the world in six different project categories - applied research, planning, design, operations/management, small projects and marketing and communications. The award will be presented at the combined East Asia and Asia Pacific Awards Ceremony and Dinner on 3 July in Singapore during Singapore International Water Week.

A winner in the design category, the ABC Waters Programme aims to creatively transform existing waterways in Singapore through creative landscaping, watershed planning, water sensitive urban design, urban master planning, and public-private-people community connection. All of these were done in a way that attracts public attention, increases enjoyment, and instils a sense of stewardship and ownership in Singapore's waterways.

"CH2M HILL is honoured to receive this prestigious award. The ABC Waters Programme is a model for communities around the world looking at enhancing the environment and protecting water resources in a holistic, sustainable manner," says Tan Ngo Chiaw, Director of CH2M HILL's Water Business Group in Asia.

Working together with multiple stakeholders, the Alexandra Canal project aims to transform the common attitudes and behaviours of the community towards stormwater, waterways, while exhibiting local and modern artwork. The key design features of the Alexandra Canal include a shallow stream, educational wetlands, flowing water cascades, and dragonfly sculptures. The design also considers the connection of Alexandra Canal's historical beginning from Singapore River and creates social interaction niches for communities, cultural spaces, and provides opportunities for development facing the river. The design creates a new experience in urban living that is centred on the waterway.

The Alexandra Canal project presents a successful way to integrate wetlands and other sustainable stormwater management designs into the landscape and waterscape of the urban fabric, with minimal negative impact on the natural water cycle and aquatic ecology.
