ソフトバンク、ファーウェイとロボットにおける5Gの活用に向けた実証実験に関する契約を締結

東京, 2017年11月01日 - (JCN Newswire) - ソフトバンク株式会社は、華為技術有限公司（以下「ファーウェイ」）と、ロボットにおける5Gの活用に向けた実証実験に関する契約を締結しました。両社は、インターネットを通じてつながるロボット「コネクテッド・ロボット」の実現に向けた検討や実証実験を2018年より実施する予定です。

ソフトバンクは、5G向け候補周波数帯の実験局免許を2016年8月に取得し、5Gの要素技術を実装した実証実験装置を用いた超高速ブロードバンド通信、超低遅延通信などの検証を実施しています。今回は、ロボットにおける5Gの大容量通信や超低遅延通信の活用方法を検証します。5Gを活用することでデータの処理などをクラウドで行えるため、ロボット本体には高性能なCPUなどが不要となり、ロボット本体の小型化やコストを下げることが可能となります。また、他のロボットとのデータ共有が容易になることで、機械学習やAIの進化をさらに促進させると考えられています。

なお、本実証実験では、ソフトバンクが開発した箱型自律走行ロボット「CUBEくん」「木箱くん」を活用します。この2つのロボットは、ロボットを制御する際に必要なさまざまな情報処理を分散して効率的に行うROS（Robot Operating System）を採用して自社で設計をしているため、5Gのネットワークを通じてロボットを制御する今回の実証実験に適しています。

ソフトバンクは今後も、来るべき5GやIoTの時代に向けてさまざまな取り組みを推進してまいります。
