NEC、沖縄本島と石垣島、宮古島と久米島を結ぶ光海底ケーブルの供給契約を締結
東京, 2022年02月16日 - (JCN Newswire) - NECは、沖縄本島と石垣島、宮古島と久米島を結ぶ光海底ケーブル敷設プロジェクトのシステム供給契約を締結しました。契約先は沖縄セルラー電話株式会社(以下、沖縄セルラー)で、本ケーブルは2023年夏に完成予定です。
本ケーブルは総距離が約720kmで、最新の光波長多重伝送方式を採用することにより毎秒60Tb(テラビット)以上の設計容量を実現します。これにより、沖縄の離島エリアにおける生活や産業など様々な場面での5Gの普及にともなうデータ通信需要の拡大に対応します。なお、NECは2019年に沖縄セルラーと、沖縄と鹿児島を結ぶ光海底ケーブルの供給契約を締結(注1)しており、本案件はそれに次ぐ契約となります。
NECは、過去50年以上にわたり海底ケーブルシステム事業を手掛けるトップベンダーです。地球7.5周分のべ30万kmを超える敷設実績があり、グローバルに事業を展開しています。また、海底ケーブルや海底中継器、陸上に設置する伝送端局装置などの製造、海洋調査とルート設計、据付・敷設工事、訓練から引渡試験まで、全てをシステムインテグレータとして提供しています。なお、海底ケーブルはNECの子会社である株式会社OCC(注2)で、海底中継器はNECプラットフォームズ株式会社(注3)で製造しています。
