Mexico's Consejo Nacional de Ciencia y Tecnologia Selects Thomson Reuters Web of Knowledge

Philadelphia, PA, London UK, Oct 20, 2011 - (ACN Newswire) - Thomson Reuters today announced the Consejo Nacional de Ciencia y Tecnologia (CONACYT), a national council promoting science and technology policies in Mexico, has selected Web of Knowledge(TM) to enhance the research and analytic capabilities of researchers across the nation.

CONACYT chose Thomson Reuters Web of Knowledge - which contains the world's largest citation databases - to help Mexican researchers navigate the extensive full-text article collections CONACYT has helped secure for the nation's universities and research facilities. The two-year contract represents a major investment by CONACYT in smaller institutions and universities that previously lacked the means to support the growth of scientific research.

"Web of Knowledge will help CONACYT achieve our goal of helping Mexico become one of the top 20 countries in science and technology in the world by 2025," said Dr. Jose Enrique Villa Rivera, general director of CONACYT. "Our scientific advancements will address important issues in areas such as information technology, biotechnology, advanced materials, and manufacturing."

All 118 institutions and universities supported by CONACYT will have access to Web of Knowledge, including multidisciplinary citation data, conference proceedings records and analysis tools from Web of Science(R), and Journal Citation Reports(R), connecting Mexican researchers to the most influential literature from around the world.

"The Web of Knowledge platform provides valuable resources for Mexico in its efforts to produce world-class scientific research and innovation," said Keith MacGregor, executive vice president at Thomson Reuters. "Researchers now have the ability to review and analyze influential studies and locate potential collaborators, thereby creating their own impactful research and positioning Mexico as one of the top research producers in the world."

With an index of over 12,000 journals and 148,000 conference proceedings across multiple disciplines, Web of Science provides a comprehensive citation database for CONACYT members to find high-impact articles and proceedings and detect emerging research trends. Journal Citation Reports extends the capabilities of Web of Science to measure and evaluate journal impact and influence, and calculates a Journal Impact Factor for each covered publication.
