NEC、英国企業と光海底ケーブル敷設船の長期チャーター契約を締結

世界的な海底ケーブル敷設需要の拡大に対応

東京, 2022年10月17日 - (JCN Newswire) - NECは英国Global Marine Systems Limited(以下 GMSL社、注1)と、約4年間にわたる光海底ケーブル敷設船のチャーター契約を締結しました。これにより海底ケーブルシステムの提供体制を強化し、世界的なデータ通信量の増加にともなう海底ケーブル敷設需要の拡大に対応していきます。

NECは、50年以上にわたり海底ケーブルシステム事業を手掛けるグローバルトップベンダーであり、海底ケーブル・海底中継器・陸上の端局装置などの製造(注2)、海洋調査とルート設計、据付・敷設、訓練から引渡試験まで、すべてをシステムインテグレータとして提供してきました。

海底ケーブル敷設船はこれまでプロジェクト毎に調達してきましたが、昨今の5G普及や各国のデータセンター間でのデータ通信量の増大と、それによる海底ケーブルの敷設需要の拡大に対応するため、このたびNECとして初めて専用で使用できる敷設船を長期チャーターしました。

これにより、今まで以上にタイムリーかつ柔軟に海底ケーブルシステムを提供し、顧客の需要に応えていきます。
