Rimba Raya Acquires Seedlings from Local Communities for Replanting Program

Central Kalimantan, INDONESIA, Jan 01, 2015 - (ACN Newswire) - PT Rimba Raya Conservation (PT RRC) is again purchasing various types of seedlings from local communities for the replanting program in PT RRC's deforested work area.

In mid December, PT RRC purhased 43,152 various types of seedlings, such as jelutong, blangiran, coffee, and melaleuca cajuputi, provided by Ulak Batu village, Danau Sembuluh subregency, Seruyan regency, Central Kalimantan - one of 10 partner villages of PT RRC. PT RRC purchased the seedlings for Rp. 4000 each, for planting on the north side of PT RRC's work area - part of Ulak Batu village territory.

Nisa Jalil, Vice President of Public & Government Relations for PT RRC, said, "From the very beginning of the operation, PT RRC educated local communities living around our work area towards providing the seedlings which will be used in the replanting program. In other words, the community will have additional income through the purchases of seedlings by PT RRC."

Jalil further stated that the replanting program not only included the local purchase of tree seedlings, but the community was also given task of planting the seedlings in the replanting program area. Thus besides generating income, the people involved in the replanting program would also learn how to help conserving the environment.

"In the near future, PT RRC will conduct another purchase of a various types of seedlings for other replanting programs. 115,000 seedlings were presented by the community of Blanti village, Muara Dua sub-village. After passing the selection process, and with a minimum height of 40 cm, we finally purchased 94,000 qualified seedlings and closed the deal at Rp. 4000/seedling," Nisa Jalil concluded.

Djonni Andhella, President Director of PT RRC, confirmed that all 94,000 seedlings will be used for the replanting program in Tatahji and Tathdian districts, adjacent to the Tanjung Puting National Park, Central Kalimantan.
