Why Hotels Need to Invest in Technology
LONDON, Jan 05, 2016 - (ACN Newswire) - Roelfien Vos, CEO, Roelfien Vos Interior Design & Architecture, a service provider attending the marcus evans Global Hospitality Summit 2016, discusses how hotels can differentiate themselves through interior design.
"The luxury of a hotel is not particularly the expensive furniture and materials, but when the hotel meets the requirements and needs of each guest which gives them the feel of luxury," describes Roelfien Vos, CEO, Roelfien Vos Interior Design & Architecture.
Roelfien Vos Interior Design & Architecture, a firm specialized in luxury boutiques is attending the marcus evans Global Hospitality Summit 2016, taking place in Dubai, UAE, 18 - 19 January.
- What makes an unforgettable hotel experience?
Nowadays people are travelling more frequently, so they are more aware of what the world can offer and they have higher expectations when it comes to hospitality services. Therefore it has become more challenging for hotels to offer an unforgettable experience.
Our philosophy is to place the guest in the centre of our designs by familiarizing ourselves with the guests' personal expectations. The ability to translate the guests' expectations and desires into a design concept ensures an unforgettable experience. Also mapping out the vision of the hotel owner and transforming it into a concept and adjusting the concept to the surroundings and culture creates a complete guest experience.
- How can hotels differentiate themselves through interior design?
The logistics of the hotel has an important role in developing a functional design. We take into consideration all the areas that form a hotel in order to offer an integrated solution.
Firstly it is important that we provide a design concept that falls under the hotel's philosophy. The guestrooms, restaurants and other public spaces must have a harmonious transition amongst each other.
The goal of hotels should be to make their guest feel special. We like to show what the hotel is good at and show its authenticity. Individuality and authenticity are key for a design to standout.
- What design elements do you believe are often overlooked by hotels?
We give special attention to having proper acoustics for all areas. This aspect is often overlooked resulting in potential problems due to insufficient research and consideration of sound exposure. It is important to consider the perception of the guest in public spaces, for example having proper acoustic gives a sense of security and ambiance. Another aspect is lighting, having a well thought out lighting plan that balances ambiance and functionality determines the experience and comfort of guests.
Finally, the integration of technology plays an increasingly important role. A clear explanation of the technical equipment is essential and must be user friendly.
- Any current trends in hotel designs?
Our perception of luxury is very much determined by the spaciousness. We are witnessing more often rooms that feel bigger because of clever design tricks. With smart layouts based on the right choices in colours and materials we can make the same square meters give a more spacious feeling.
We also see the change in appearance and function of the reception desk has become more popular. Instead of the large classic desk we now design several places at the lobby where desks are placed with an employee. The reception is personal, and it gives the employee the opportunity to further suit the individual needs and preferences of the guest.
